The Vietnamese community has been working towards creating a cultural center for over a decade. In 2012, Little Saigon developed an Action Plan that identified community space as a high priority for anchoring the neighborhood, providing services, and celebrating Vietnamese American culture and heritage. Today, we are closer to reaching that vision! Friends of Little Saigon is building out a Little Saigon Creative Space that is dedicated to community programming and celebrating Vietnamese arts, culture, and history. This project builds the foundation for future cultural and community spaces in the Vietnamese community.
Friends of Little Saigon is 70% there! This is our final push for ensuring this space is complete and setup for community use. Your investment in the Little Saigon Creative Space will support long-term sustainability of our small businesses, arts and cultural programs, and a social space for gathering in Little Saigon.
Construction of the space is anticipated to be complete in Spring 2020. Some of our anticipated programs include:
- Vietnamese-style cafe
- Community resource & library
- Art exhibition space
- Vietnamese language classes
- Small business technical assistance
- Coworking space
- Meeting and event rentals
This space is part of the Landmark Project, a community vision that includes a multi-phase approach to supporting economic vitality for small businesses and the development of a Cultural Center.
Your sponsorship will support the success of the following programs, as well as provide supplies and equipment needs for a safe and open community space.
The Little Saigon Creative Space will include an art exhibit highlighting and advocating Vietnamese American identity and experiences. Our art exhibit will create opportunities to build relationships with artists, designers, and with the community.
The Little Saigon Creative Space will also serve as a community resource center. Our services include a community library, referral services, small business technical assistance, and cultural classes.
Hello Em – Vietnamese Coffee and Roastery will be a partner and tenant in the new space. One of the first Viet cafe and roasteries in Little Saigon!
